Description from the seller
Acrylic paint and mixed media on canvas mounted on a wooden frame - Hand-signed - 2026
Signed work by Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, known for reappropriating cultural icons and bold stylistic fusions.
With this square-format original piece, Medsan offers a resolutely modern and transgressive vision of traditional Japan. This richly textured painting features a classic ukiyo-e figure — an elegant geisha — reimagined with the nonchalant attitude of contemporary urban culture. (anachronism)
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: dressed in a sumptuous kimono with meticulous details (floral motifs and majestic cranes), our heroine wears a modern JBL headphones on her ears and puffs on an e-cigarette, releasing thick plumes of smoke. She sits atop a stylized BMX bicycle bearing the inscriptions "Medsan" and "Fuji Bikes," marking a total break with classical imagery.
The impact of the canvas largely rests on its solid yellow background, vibrant and luminous. Worked with acrylic paint and mixed media, the canvas features beautiful textural effects and benefits from a carefully varnished finish. This strong aesthetic, inspired by modern Pop Art, makes the contrasts explode. In the upper right corner, the signature "Medsan" written in Japanese (katakana) seals this perfect fusion between Edo-period classical art and street culture.
A hand-painted piece with extraordinary charisma. It’s ideal for adding a colorful, urban, and quirky touch to a designer interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around contemporary, living, plural creation. Established as a true artistic production hub, the studio operates both as collaborative creation and as individual endeavors, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive exploration, blending abstract art, naïve art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
