Description from the seller
Jean‑Pierre Dolla (born 1946) French School
Large abstract composition, around 1980
Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 92 × 73 cm
This large-format work illustrates the expressive pictorial language developed by Jean‑Pierre Dolla around the structure of the landscape and the rhythm of the line. The composition is organized into broad color fields — ochers, blues, reds, and purples — crossed by a dynamic network of dark, sinuous lines that structure the space.
The whole evokes a free and almost cartographic vision of the landscape, where shapes and tracings seem to suggest paths, reliefs, or recomposed plots in a gestural pictorial writing.
Close observation reveals rich texture with impasto and knife marks, as well as overlayers of color. These variations in texture give the surface a luminous vibration and great vitality.
The work is signed bottom right with “JP Dolla.”
On the back of the stretcher there is a handwritten inscription reading:
« Dolla J. Pierre – La Palud », corresponding to the title of the work.
Condition: good overall, some slight repainting and small losses visible in places, with no impact on the reading of the work.
Jean‑Pierre Dolla, born in Flayosc in the Var (France) in 1946, is a French painter trained at the Écoles Décoratives in Grenoble and then at the Beaux‑Arts in Paris. In 1971, he received the Critics’ Prize, a major distinction that revealed his work very early. His painting then evolved toward a personal abstraction where the memory of the Mediterranean landscape and gestural energy occupy a central place.
Work sold unframed.
An expressive and decorative piece representative of the artist’s abstract production in the 1980s.
