Calvo, Polline e Geometrie, 2026, original acrylic painting on a 100 by 77 cm surface from Italy, in abstract expressionism with pop culture motifs, signed and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Nino Calvo's work, realized in acrylic on a 100 x 77 cm surface, presents itself as a dynamic visual palimpsest in which lyrical abstraction and graphic signs merge into a joyful and complex narrative.
Composition and Chromatism
The painting is dominated by a vibrant palette where the tones of solar yellow and fluorescent pink set the emotional pace of the scene. The background is not static, but appears as a nebula of warm shades — ochre, earth tones and touches of acid green — that create an almost three-dimensional atmospheric depth.
Sign Language
The distinctive feature of the work is the interaction between different levels of sign:
Organic Forms: biomorphic and sinuous elements (evoking petals, cells, or small organisms) seem to float in space, giving the work a sense of biological vitality.
Geometry and Graphic: Overlaid on the blended fields, we find definite graphic signs: thin green lines tracing an ideal grid, small circles, arches and arrows. These "technical" elements contrast with the softness of the background, evoking conceptual maps or diagrams of a moving thought.
Gesturality: The use of acrylic alternates between veiled washes and more material, opaque brushstrokes (especially in the whites and bright pinks), creating a play of transparencies that invites the eye to explore the different layers of the canvas.
Note on style: Calvo's work in this piece seems to explore the boundary between the chaos of nature and the order of human thought. The signature in the bottom left corner "CALVO" seals an balanced composition despite the apparent frenzy of the elements.
