Description from the seller
MEDSAN - Virtual seeing – Méta-Mie – Virtual Mie
With this square-format (40x40 cm) unpublished work, Medsan continues his bold exploration and offers us a decidedly modern and transgressive vision of traditional Japan. This giclée stages a classic ukiyo-e figure — an elderly and fierce Kabuki actor — reimagined as a hyper-connected video game enthusiast.
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: dressed in a sumptuous kimono with voluminous folds and complex, stylized gold wave patterns, our hero with red and black Kumadori makeup is not on stage but in full "live". His traditional hairstyle is integrated into a black and gold virtual reality (VR) headset, adorned with intricate motifs and bright blue lights. From his ornate gold-plated game controller emanate braided cables connected to two ultra-wide gaming monitors, framed by dark wood and metal to resemble traditional screens. One of them displays pixel art of a geisha, merging Edo tradition with digital gaming.
The impact of the work also lies in its emerald green, solid, vibrant background. This decor-less backdrop, heavily inspired by modern Pop Art, highlights the complexity of the drapery and the absurdity of the situation. The traditional vertical cartouche in the upper right corner, bearing the signature "Medsan" in Katakana (メドサン), seals this perfect fusion between Edo-period classic art and contemporary digital culture.
A piece of tremendous charisma, both satirical and masterfully executed, ideal for adding a pop, colorful, and distinctly urban touch to a design interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists brought together around a living and plural contemporary creation. Located as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward Pop Art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
