"Original unique work. Not a print, but a complex flat sculpture created through manual layering of colored papers. The zig-zag pattern, the nexus of the artist’s kinetic research, creates dynamic optical movement."
"Across" is a work that requires time. It invites slowing down to perceive how the very small (the single strip of paper) can generate the very large (a overwhelming visual energy). An excellent piece that elevates the paper support, transforming it into an optical device of rare elegance and sensory power.
Critical Review: "Across" – The Architecture of the Fragment
In an era dominated by the speed of digital, the work "Across" stands as a manifesto of poetic resistance. At first glance, the observer is struck by a chromatic dynamism that seems to vibrate on the surface, but it is in the silence of the detail that the work reveals its true nature: a monumental operation of micro-patience.
The Technique: The Rhythm of the Cut
The beating heart of "Across" lies in its technical genesis. We are not facing a traditional painting stroke, but a stratification almost geological of hundreds of strips of paper, cut by hand with strict precision. This gesture, repeated with almost ritual accuracy, gives the work a tactile three-dimensionality. Each strip is not only a color vector but a structural unit that captures light in a unique way, creating infinitesimal shadows that a brush could never generate.
Optical Perception and Color Phenomenology
The work asserts itself in the lineage of kinetic research and Op Art, implicitly referencing the lessons of masters such as Bridget Riley or Victor Vasarely, but with a material warmth entirely new.
The Radial Trend: The orientation of the strips is not random; it follows a rigorous study of optical perception. The lines seem to expand from an invisible focal point at the bottom right, creating an illusion of movement that transcends the physical edge of the support.
Chromatic Tension: The shift from warm, earthy ochre and brown tones to electric explosions of cyan blue and magenta creates a contrast that "stuns" the eye, forcing it to continuously refocus.
Meaning of the Title: "Across"
The title, "Across" (Through), serves as a fundamental key to interpretation. The work is not a destination, but a transit. It is the crossing of light through matter, of space through line, and of time through the obsessive gesture of manual cutting. It is a bridge cast between the mathematical order of composition and the vital imperfection of handmade work.
