Description from the seller

Chanel – Vintage earrings attributed to Archimede Seguso – red and black glass, gilded brass and pearls – model documented in literature – 1970s

Elegant pair of vintage earrings attributed to the collaboration between the fashion house Chanel and the Murano glassworks Archimede Seguso (Venice), made with red and black glass shaped into a ring, with a central element in gilded brass decorated with synthetic pearls.

The design reprises the characteristic chain motif of curved glass elements, developed by Archimede Seguso for Chanel starting in 1968. This line of glass jewelry was very successful and was produced in various color variants from the late 1960s to the 1970s.

This type of jewelry is documented in the specialist literature on Italian costume jewelry. In particular, a necklace belonging to the same stylistic line, composed of curved glass elements and gilded brass, made by Archimede Seguso for Chanel (Venice, 1969), is illustrated in the following reference volumes:

- Bianca Cappello, Storia della Bigiotteria Italiana, Skira
- Bianca Cappello – Augusto Panini, Gioielli di Vetro. Dalla Preistoria al III Millennio, Antiga Edizioni

In the volume Storia della Bigiotteria Italiana, an emblematic example of this series of glass bijoux is published, characterized by colored glass rings assembled in a chain with gilded metal elements, a design that influenced glass jewelry production for the entire following decade.

The earrings offered here reproduce the same stylistic language of the series: intertwined red and black glass ring elements, three-dimensional structure and gilded metal details, characteristics that make these bijoux particularly recognizable and appreciated in Chanel jewelry collecting and in the Murano glass production of the period.

Characteristics:
- House: Chanel (attributed)
- Designer / manufacture: Archimede Seguso, Venice (attributed)
- Period: circa the 1970s
- Origin: Venice, Italy
- Materials: worked glass, gilded brass, synthetic pearls
- Colors: red, black, gold
- Length: 3.2 cm
- Closure: clip
- Conditions: good vintage condition, with slight signs of aging consistent with their age

An interesting example of the collaboration between French haute couture and Murano glassmaking tradition, belonging to a line of jewelry documented in important publications dedicated to the history of Italian costume jewelry.

The lot is accompanied by photographs of the reference volumes in which this line of bijoux is documented.

Shipping: tracked shipping within Italy with InPost, in Europe with UPS.
