Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking that same year among the ten best sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its work FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, prompted by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition mixing paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl particularly enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art gallery at the Monaco Art Fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His solo exhibition in 2016 at the Atrium gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works before the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world equestrian championship in Lexington, where he created a sculpture of a horse dedicated to the event. In 2012, he offered Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the entrance of the town. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptures “One Dollar,” which earned him a place by Artprice among the world’s top ten sculptors under 30.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing inspiration from “Cryptogramme One,” he created a trophy in polished mirror-finish aluminum alloy, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7th Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received a commission to create a new trophy inspired by a iconic Deauville symbol: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabines on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati covered in white plastic and a Jesus statue surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at the Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, inspired by his Cryptogramme One work and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7th Art” on the trophies.
