SMOLE
Smole, he threw himself body and soul into the stubborn world of graffiti at barely fifteen years old. Under the impulse of a first generation of Montpellier taggers, mentors for whom he bears eternal gratitude, he discovers from the early 2000s his preferred medium: the train. From that exact moment, a flood of Smole and other C4, TF1 or FTW (the names of his crews) sweeps across Europe: from Rome to Barcelona, passing through Brussels or Bucharest, very quickly his name circulates as much on walls and carriages as on the lips of connoisseurs, intrigued. Became obsessive, almost compulsive, graffiti then takes, for him, the appearance of a roaming addiction, offering him in turn friendships but also the inexorable judicial sirens.
For this solo exhibition, Smole has focused all his energy on magnifying the rail universe that he knows so well. Recently settled in Sète, a town long loved by artists, he has turned to salvaging objects and materials found here and there on the nearby railways. Selected, these objects receive a second life thanks to the lettering and other artistic peregrinations of this big kid of 34. “Rail ’n’ Peace” is thus proof of the sincerity of Smole’s approach. A mark of affection for a world of insiders, the testimony of twenty-something years of experience that is far from ending. For Smole eats and draws, breathes and tags, sleeps and then goes to paint. With great humility.
