Description from the seller
Copy of the original large-format edition, exceptionally signed on the title page by Elliot Erwitt (1928 – 2023), unique and unavailable on the internet in a signed copy. Do not confuse with the paperback or mid-format reissues that followed the publication of this original edition. 178 pages and about 150 black-and-white photographs printed full page and, for some, on double pages, captions of the photographs at the end of the book with miniature reproductions, text in English, German, Italian and French and Spanish by Adam Gopnik, sturdy publisher's binding illustrated on the cover and back and the dust jacket illustrated identically. In excellent condition, practically like new.
"Yes, Paris will always be Paris and who better than the inimitable Elliot Erwitt to immortalize its spirit? With his unique eye for capturing reality, Erwitt sees beyond tourist clichés. This master of photography reveals just as well the power emanating from the monuments as the scenes of daily life. Alternating intimate details and wide views, Erwitt captures the very essence of this metropolis." (editor's note).
Son of Russian émigrés, Elliott Erwitt was born in 1928 in Paris and grew up in Italy and France, then his family emigrated to the United States in 1939. Elliott Erwitt attended high school while working in a commercial photographic laboratory where he develops prints. In 1949, he returns to Europe where he travels and begins his professional career. In 1953 Elliott Erwitt, sponsored by Robert Capa, becomes a member of Magnum Photos. He worked for Life magazine and participated in the famous The Family of Man exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1955, and for more than fifty years, his books, photo reports, illustrations and advertisements have appeared in publications around the world. Where his exhibitions also enjoy great success.
A book from my personal collection, in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the utmost care. Very effective protected shipping and guaranteed international postal tracking. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of group shipping with reimbursement of excess postage paid via Paypal.
