Covered porcelain pot from Japan - Imari style - late Edo period (19th century)

Description:
Selling a superb lidded pot (lid vase) in Japanese Arita porcelain, in Imari style.

Decoration: rich floral ornamentation called "brocade" with peonies and scrolls, executed in the traditional palette: cobalt blue under glaze, iron red, and gilded highlights.

Lid: Surmounted by a substantial knop in the shape of a Shishi (mythological guardian lion), finely formed and gilded.

Period: 19th century (late Edo period).

Condition: Good overall. Colors are fresh, the gilding shows a patina of normal wear that attests to its age. No major cracks or chips visible under the pot and the tail of the shishi (see photos).

Dimensions: approximately 25 cm in height.
