Description from the seller
Traditional Boulognese Ring – 18-karat yellow gold – Boulogne-sur-Mer – regional craftsmanship
Description
Rare Boulognese ring in 18-karat yellow gold, a traditional jewel originating from Boulogne-sur-Mer, a maritime region known for its jewelry creations typical of the northern coastline.
This artisanal ring belongs to the tradition of the “Boulogne rings,” also called the love knot.
The motif is composed of balls surrounded by twisted cords, inspired by maritime ropes. These elements historically symbolize motherhood, protection, and love, jewels that sailors once offered to their wives or fiancées.
When observing the underside of the motif’s structure, two interlaced hearts are visible, a characteristic signature of these traditional rings.
These jewels were crafted by local Boulogne-sur-Mer jewelers, some workshops of which have since disappeared, making these pieces increasingly difficult to find.
