Description from the seller
JONATHAN anthology
print run 30x42 cm. numbered on the back 44/250. printed signature
Larry Clark is an American photographer and filmmaker known for his blunt depictions of youth culture. Often at the heart of controversy, Clark’s black-and-white images capture sexuality, drug use, and violence, as in his photo diary Tulsa (1971) and his first feature film Kids (1995). Capable of establishing an intimate relationship with his subjects, Clark explains, “I am a storyteller. Taking a photo and moving on has never interested me. I like staying with the people I photograph for a long time.” Born January 19, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Clark studied at a commercial photography school after working as the assistant to his mother, a photographer of portraits for babies and infants. Clark currently lives and works between Los Angeles and New York. His major retrospective “Kiss the Past Hello” was presented at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 2010, and solo exhibitions have taken place notably at Urbi et Orbi Gallery in Paris, Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo, and the International Center of Photography in New York.
