Bouquet de fleurs, a 19th‑century French oil painting of a floral still life, unsigned, 43 cm high by 31 cm wide, in acceptable condition, sold with the frame.
Description from the seller
French school, 19th century. Still life with flowers. Oil on canvas.
An attractive still life composition depicting a bouquet of flowers arranged in a ceramic vase, on a neutral surface, with a background in soft tones that highlight the central floral ensemble. The work presents loose and impasto brushwork, with a chromatic construction rich in nuances, where contrasts between pinks, whites and greens stand out, in dialogue with a more earthy base.
The treatment of the flowers, resolved through quick and material touches, gives the composition a vibrant and spontaneous character, while the background, more contained, balances the set and adds depth. The result is within the tradition of 19th-century French painting, with affinities to Naturalism and certain echoes of studio painting.
An old canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher is observed, with visible signs of aging on the reverse, corresponding to its chronology.
The work shows small holes, wear, and occasional losses in the paint layer, typical of the passage of time and of its nature, not compromising the overall reading of the composition.
The frame accompanying the piece is included as a gift, not considered part of the artwork's value.
It is recommended to examine the images carefully, which are an essential part of the description.
