Description from the seller
18th Century Hanau Faience Plate – Chinoiserie Landscape & Bird – Jungmann Family Heritage
A fine 18th-century tin-glazed earthenware (faience) plate, produced in the renowned Hanau manufactory (Germany). This piece is a classic example of European "Chinoiserie," reflecting the 17th and 18th-century fascination with Chinese blue and white export porcelain.
Artistic Decoration
Motif: Hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The central scene features a traditional oriental pavilion, stylized "sponge-painted" trees, and a bird perched on a branch—a signature motif of the Hanau workshops.
Shape: The plate features a charming scalloped (wavy) edge with concentric blue lines, adding a dynamic Baroque feel to the composition.
Condition & Features
Condition: In good antique condition consistent with its nearly 300-year age. There are typical small glaze chips (fritting) along the rim, which is characteristic of authentic tin-glazed earthenware. No structural cracks or restorations.
Display: The plate comes with its antique wire wall hanger attached. Please note that it is being sold in this original state as found.
Dimensions: Diameter approx. 24 cm.
Provenance
This piece comes from the private estate of the distinguished Jungmann family (notable Czech intellectual lineage).
Shipping & Handling
The item will be handled with extreme care. I provide professional double-boxing and extensive cushioning to ensure the plate arrives safely.
