Andrea Imwiehe, Mangelware_04, 2014, acrylic painting with a line drawing on a wooden panel, original edition, 30 x 30 cm, beige-cream with pink and white accents, signed on the back, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Andrea Imwiehe masterfully combines acrylic painting with precise line drawings. Unique: The lines are cut directly into the acrylic paint, creating a subtly sunken relief. This special technique gives her images a tactile depth.
As an “archaeologist of memory,” Imwiehe preserves the past and lets it re-emerge through her art. Her pictures are based on her own concrete memories and objects with personal meaning, yet she manages to transform them into something universal. The works speak to universal feelings and evoke memories that every viewer can relate to in their own way.
The work “Mangelware” (Scarcity) captivates with its quiet intensity and formal clarity. At first glance it shows only a single piece of fabric, seemingly carelessly hung on a clothesline. But it is precisely this reduction that contains a deep poetry.
The fabric is old pink, worn, soft in its folds and full of history. The meticulously realistic painting contrasts with the almost empty background area. This consists of finely nuanced, almost monochrome beige tones, giving the subject space to breathe and directing the viewer’s gaze to the essential.
