Description from the seller
New Series – Iconic Faces - Legends of Pop Culture
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle game of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Drawn in by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Iconic Faces - Legends of Pop Culture
Creation Process.
Each work in this series is the result of visual research and artistic composition work aimed at reinterpreting the great icons of music and cinema. The artist begins by studying the distinctive traits, expressions and attitude that made these personalities instantly recognizable in the collective imagination. He develops a graphic interpretation where certain details are deliberately emphasized to create a subtle, expressive, contemporary caricature. The characters are then placed in environments inspired by their artistic universe. At the crossroads of portrait, illustration and pop culture, this series offers a reinterpretation of figures who have left a mark on the history of entertainment and continue to influence our visual culture.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Path/Trail
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops a body of work as author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
