Description from the seller
New series – Iconic Faces - Legends of pop culture
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relation to illusion and projection.
New series – Iconic Faces - Legends of pop culture
Creative process.
Each work in this series results from visual research and artistic composition aimed at reinterpreting the great icons of music and cinema. The artist begins by studying the distinctive features, expressions and attitudes that made these personalities immediately recognizable in the collective imagination. He develops a graphic interpretation in which certain details are deliberately exaggerated to create a subtle, expressive, contemporary caricature. The characters are then placed in environments inspired by their artistic universe. At the crossroads of portrait, illustration and pop culture, this series offers a reinterpretation of figures who have marked the history of show business and continue to influence our visual culture.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a mounted backing. Printed on luminous white vinyl, it is mounted between two aluminum plates, with flexible UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-lasting color stability and a modern, contemporary appearance.
Background
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops authorial work and music, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
