Description of the work
This work presents a dynamic abstract composition where curved and tapered shapes interweave around a suggested vertical axis. The whole evokes a moving organic structure, almost vegetal or architectural, whose elements seem to spring upward in a balance between tension and fluidity.
The solid black forms alternate with surfaces made up of fine parallel lines, creating a subtle graphical play between dark masses and light weaves. This meticulous ink work gives the composition a visual vibration and a sense of depth, intensified by the superpositions and intersections of shapes.
The background, treated more freely with diffuse and cloudy areas of ink, contrasts with the precision of the central elements. This opposition between controlled structure and more spontaneous matter creates a rich visual space, where the form seems to emerge from an almost atmospheric environment.
The whole exudes a strong sense of elevation and inner movement, characteristic of Eugène Eechaut’s graphic explorations in the realm of linear and organic abstraction.

Artist’s note
Eugène Eechaut (1928–2019) was a Belgian painter and draftsman whose work lies between poetic abstraction, stylized figuration, and rigorous graphic research. In the 1970s, he develops a visual language based on the geometricization of forms, exploration of verticality, and expressive use of ink on paper.
This period corresponds to a phase of artistic maturity during which his compositions combine structural rigor with gestural freedom, giving rise to works where the line becomes a true constructive element.
Conclusion
Dated September 19, 1973, this abstract composition is a representative example of Eugène Eechaut’s graphic work in the early 1970s.
Sold with its natural light wood frame and bearing a gallery stamp on the back, it coherently fits into the whole body of his abstract on paper, both by its graphic richness and by the balance between linear precision and plastic expression."}{
