This work, created in 2026 by Michael Peddio, belongs to the pictorial research dedicated to the Earth as seen from above, a series begun by the artist in 2025 in which the landscape is reinterpreted through a vision suspended between reality and abstraction.
Critique from Galleria Reart of Reggio Emilia - The composition suggests a hilly terrain crossed by a winding road that opens into the space of the painting as a human trace in the natural landscape. A road sign emerges as a symbolic and narrative element, introducing a quasi-metaphysical dimension: an indication of direction, a boundary, or perhaps a warning within a territory in constant transformation. Above the horizon a powerful red vertical form rises, piercing the sky, evoking an atmospheric or energetic phenomenon that connects earth and space. This element becomes the visual focal point of the work, creating a dynamic tension between the underlying landscape and the celestial dimension. The painting alternates between matter, glazes, and gestural marks, building a surface rich in chromatic stratifications. Warm earth tones, orange and red dialogue with lighter and brighter fields, suggesting the perception of a territory observed from a mental distance rather than a geographic one. In this view, the landscape is not merely represented but transformed into an emotional map, where signs and symbols become traces of human presence within a vast and ever-changing environment.
Michael Peddio: My free expression is not confined by a predefined idea, but conveyed through color and form as the sole instrument, a return to a primordial form of art. The absence of drawing is, for me, a prerogative of the indeterminacy of the work at its birth; as in life and especially in the times we live, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation. My painting evolves from the white canvas to an unpredictable ending. For me there exists only the acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process.
Michael Peddio took his first steps, as a child, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point comes around 30, thanks to his meeting with maestro Teobaldo Cattini, a Ragusan Macchiaiolo painter, who opens the doors to painting. A great source of inspiration and strength from the former boxer painter. In 2012 the meeting with the artist Barbara Nicoletto, his current partner, opens the doors to his second artistic season and to artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014 painting begins to take on an interior meaning. Figurative begins to give way to introspection. Inner strength takes over and the canvas becomes a slash, over the years increasingly free of filters, increasingly unreticent in showing his I. Strength and weaknesses are shown without shame. Man is naked, without masks.
In April 2016 he is noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, he exhibits in: Il Museo in Vetrina, a two-person show at Museo CA’DEI CARRARESI in Treviso, a very important venue rarely granted to an emerging artist.
In 2018 Michael Peddio reaches painterly maturity. His paintings are free from conditioning, expressing with harmony and beauty all the raw reality the artist wants to be shown. We find strength and harmony. We also find positivity in tragedy. We find beauty.
Since 2018 the artist has collaborated with Galleria REART, opening up to the art world and interacting with other national artists. We see him exhibit and also curate exhibitions. He co-founded with Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti the movement of the Chromatists. They meet in a Factory, a place of discussion and work.
In 2020 the encounter with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, provides Michael Peddio with a major source of engagement with the national art world. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at Radium Artis Gallery marked his debut in important art, at 46, giving him the visibility his works deserve.
In 2021 the meeting with critic and curator Alberto Navilli opened another steep evolutionary path, seeing his art grow ever more toward a cruder and uncompromising spontaneity.
