This work, realized in 2026 by Michael Peddio, belongs to a painterly research devoted to Earth observed from above, a series started by the artist in 2025 in which the landscape is reinterpreted through a vision suspended between reality and abstraction. As a critic from Galleria RERT in Reggio Emilia notes, the composition suggests a territory crossed by a road that opens into the painting space like a human trace in the natural landscape. The horizon dissolves into a wide, luminous atmosphere, where the sky becomes the protagonist through layers of blues, whites, and deep blues. Within this scenario emerge some road signs, concrete and recognizable elements that introduce a dialogue between human presence and the natural dimension, hinting at the imminence of danger in continuing... Or perhaps only the intention to dissuade man from pursuing the personal in this homogenized world. These signs become visual symbols, almost coordinates within a transforming territory.

The painting alternates spontaneous gestures and opaque glazes, creating a surface rich in movement and depth. The color blocks evoke water, earth, and sky, suggesting a landscape seen from a suspended distance, as if the viewer were looking at the territory from above.

From this perspective the landscape is not merely represented but transformed into an emotional map, where signs, directions, and symbols tell the relationship between man and the space he inhabits.

The work fits into the artist’s contemporary path dedicated to the perception of territory and the transformation of the landscape, where reality and vision blend into a poetic and dynamic dimension.

Michael Peddio: My free expression is not confined by a preconceived idea, but carried through color and form as the only tool, a return to a primordial art form. The absence of drawing is, for me, a prerogative of the work’s indeterminacy at birth; as in life and especially in the times we live, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation. My painting evolves from a white canvas to an unpredictable finale. For me there is only acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process. ”

Michael Peddio took his first steps as a child, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point came around 30, thanks to meeting master Teobaldo Cattini, a Reggio painter of the Macchiaioli, who opened the doors to painting. A major source of inspiration and strength from the artist, a former boxer. In 2012 he met artist Barbara Nicoletto, his current partner, opening the doors to his second artistic season and artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014 painting began to take on an inner meaning. The figurative began to give way to introspection. Inner strength took over and the canvas became a breach, year after year increasingly unfiltered, increasingly unreticent in showing his I. Strength and weaknesses are shown without shame. Man is naked, without masks.

In April 2016 he was noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, he exhibited in: The Museum on Show, a two-person show at CA’ Dei Carraresi Museum in Treviso, a very important venue rarely granted to an emerging artist.

In 2018 Michael Peddio reaches painterly maturity. His paintings are free from conditioning, expressing with harmony and beauty all the raw reality the artist wants shown. We find strength and harmony. We also find positivity in tragedy. We find beauty.

Also from 2018 we see the artist collaborating with Galleria REART, opening to the art world and interacting with other artists on the national scene. We see him exhibit and also curate shows. Together with artist Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti he founded the movement of the Chromatists. They meet in a Factory, a place for discussion and work.

In 2020 the meeting with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, provided Michael Peddio with a major source of dialogue with the national art world. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at Radium Artis Gallery was his debut in significant art, at 46, giving him the visibility his works deserve.

In 2021 the encounter with critic and curator Alberto Navilli opened another steep evolution, seeing his art grow ever more on the path of an ever cruder and uncompromising immediacy.
