AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

An exceptionally inscribed and signed copy on the front free endpaper by Raymond Depardon (born 1942), unique and unavailable on the internet in a signed edition, extremely rare and almost unattainable in an unsigned copy. 164 pages and 76 black-and-white photographs, most printed as double-page spreads, French text by Philippe Séclier. Publisher’s cloth binding with a photograph printed on the cover and on the back cover, with the title on the cover and on the back (no dust jacket as issued). In excellent condition, practically as new.

In 1968, while still with the Gamma agency, he carried out his first major reportage across the Atlantic. In Chicago, he covered both the Democratic National Convention, which was about to nominate Hubert Humphrey as a candidate for the presidential election, and a large antiwar demonstration against the Vietnam War. A few weeks later, he was the only French photographer to follow Richard Nixon, the conservative candidate who was campaigning before being elected in November of that year, the 37th president of the United States. It was only in the summer of 1981, for Libération, that Raymond Depardon returned to America and temporarily settled in New York. He had to send a photo and a caption every day for the French daily, then led by Serge July, for just over a month. This would be the famous New York correspondence that marked a turning point in his work. In 1982, in the wake of this assignment, which would be published by Cahiers du Cinéma, Depardon again roamed the American West, from New Mexico to California, via Colorado and Nevada. He would then wait seventeen years before facing, this time in a new height format and temporarily abandoning his Leica, the majestic landscapes of Montana and the Dakotas.

Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the greatest care. Very effectively protected shipping and guaranteed international tracking. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with reimbursement of any excess postage paid via PayPal. 1.2 kg excluding packaging.
