Trevisan Carlo, The Eye, oil on canvas, 46x46 cm, original edition, 2025, surrealism still life, signed by hand, certificate on the back, Italy, sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
In this oil painting on canvas, Carlo Trevisan revisits the classical theme of the floral still life, infusing it with an unsettling and magnetic aura of surrealism.
At first glance, the painting appears as a cheerful bouquet of white lilies, yellow tulips, and multicolored daisies, rendered with a thick, vibrant brushwork on a background of cerulean tones. However, the reassuring beauty of the composition is interrupted by a hypnotic detail: a human eye emerging among the petals, right at the center of the bouquet.
The artist plays on the dichotomy between the innocence of nature and the “living” presence of the eye, transforming the observed object (the flowers) into a subject that observes.
The eye embedded in the bouquet evokes the notion of a sentient nature or, perhaps, represents the artist’s gaze that is imprinted in his own creation.
Trevisan’s technique balances an almost illustrative precision in the floral details with emotional depth afforded by the deft use of shadows and light, culminating in the almost photographic realism of the central iris.
This painting is not merely a floral decoration, but a true window opened onto the unconscious, capable of capturing the viewer in a silent, deep game of gazes.
The painting is an oil on canvas measuring 36 x 36 cm, mounted with a passe-partout and faesite for final dimensions of 46 x 46 cm. Signed on the front by the artist and certified on the back.
