Description from the seller
A superb copy of Paris, century by century, by Albert Robida, in the original edition.
Published in Paris by La Librairie Illustrée, this emblematic work from the late 19th century brings together Robida’s text, drawings and lithographs around the history of Paris through the ages. It stands as one of the great illustrated books devoted to the capital, blending historical perspective, a sense of staging, and graphic virtuosity.
The copy is preserved in its original illustrated publisher’s binding, particularly decorative, with a very beautiful composition on the front board and a titled spine.
The interior is richly illustrated with plates, views, historical scenes and in-text compositions, which make up the charm of this work sought after by lovers of Paris, of illustrated history, and of late 19th-century books.
Condition:
Copy in satisfactory conservation condition and very presentable, with signs of wear typical of such an old volume:
- scuffing and small scratches to the binding,
- corners and tops slightly worn,
- some scattered foxing, notably on the title,
- interior generally clean,
- stitching/weakness visible on some gatherings, not affecting readability or overall presentation.
Nevertheless, the work retains a very handsome visual presence, both in a library and as a collectible object.
Highlights:
- original edition
- Albert Robida, a major figure of the illustrated book
- illustrated publisher’s binding
- richly decorated volume and highly visually attractive
- sought-after subject: Paris through history
- a beautifully presented copy
Format: large quarto (grand in-4), approximately
