DESCRIPTION:
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the painterly universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:
"There is a great deal of poetry in this painting, as in all the artist’s works. They are inhabited by narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childish chant. [...] But the most amazing thing that manifests itself in these canvases is a communicative tenderness toward the states of mind of human beings."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets shapes emerge and transform with the stroke, in a free and spontaneous movement. Figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superpositions; elements seem to float, respond to each other, intertwine, creating a living and open visual space.
An expressive work that immediately captures the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.

Trained in his teens by the painter Georg Schaible and later at the Nürtingen University of Fine Arts in the late 1980s, he has exhibited in France and Germany, notably at Galerie Hartmut Beck (Erlangen), MAC Paris and Galerie Théo de Seine (Paris).
