White-metal table burner / warming plate, Paris, late 18th century – maker's mark JANV with a key – 1420 g

Elegant white-metal table burner / warming plate in the Louis XVI style, made in Paris in the late 18th century. The piece rests on four richly decorative feet with foliate work and features sculpted side handles. The pierced gallery allowed air to circulate to feed a candle or a small burner intended to keep a hot dish warm on the table. The overall piece presents a Neoclassical decoration characteristic of the Louis XVI period.

Under the base are two marks:
- “10 L” indicating an accounting weight in lots
- maker's mark “JANV” with a key, attributed to the Parisian silversmith Jean-Baptiste Janvier, active in the second half of the 18th century.

This type of burner was used in elegant table services to keep dishes warm before the advent of modern warming devices.

A very fine piece of antique silverware, both functional, decorative, and collectible.
