The exclusive series ‘The Best Debut Novels’, published by De Volkskrant in 2011, contains the first literary works of the greatest contemporary Dutch authors: from Jan Wolkers, Kees van Kooten, Harry Mulisch and Connie Palmen, to Arthur Japin, Heleen van Royen and Charlotte Mutsaers. ‘The Best Debut Novels’ features 20 novels, which together provide a wonderful snapshot of Dutch literature in the second half of the 20th century, from Archibald strohalm by Harry Mulisch in 1952 to De gelukkige huisvrouw by Heleen van Royen in 2000.
