Nude painting in the forest is one of the pair of nude paintings(for the second painting see next item) created by famous belgian allegorical , mythological painter, sculptor and poet Auguste Leveque (1864 Nivelles - 1921 Brussel). He studied by Portaels in der School of Fine Arts in Marseille. the artist recieved acknowledge with his symbolic-idealist monumental compositions, nude paintings and landscapes. he worked in Florence and paris also.
Works by Leveque : museums of Bruessel, Antwerpen, Gent, Lüttich.
Literature: Thieme/Becker "Allgemeines Lexikon der bildenden Künstler von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart"; "Malerwerke des 19 Jh." by F.v.Boetticher, II/1, 1898.
Inscription: signed and dated 1915 lower left.
Technique: oil on canvas. Luxuriousy original period frame.
Measurements: unframed w 16 " x h 28 " (41 x 71 cm); framed w 26 " x h 37 3/4" (66 x 96 cm)
