Description from the seller

I’m pleased to offer you a rare and visually captivating original exhibition poster by Robert Rauschenberg. This work was designed for his major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, in the spring of 1977.

Rauschenberg, a pioneer between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, uses here his unmistakable transfer technique and collage aesthetics. The poster is not merely an information medium, but a standalone artistic statement that integrates everyday objects—such as spark plugs and striped textures—into a complex, layered composition.

Why this object belongs in every collection:
- Artistic relevance: It represents the peak of Rauschenberg’s work and documents one of the most important exhibitions of his career.
- Typography: The handwritten-looking, bold typography ("RAUSCHENBERG" in striking red) gives the sheet tremendous dynamism and immediacy.
- Provenance & printing: Published by Telamon Editions Limited (1976/77), known for its exemplary collaborations with major artists of this era.
- Condition: As seen in the close-up images, the print is in excellent condition; the typography at the bottom is razor-sharp.

Details & specifications
- Artist: Robert Rauschenberg (1925–2008)
- Title: MoMA Retrospective Exhibition Poster
- Publisher: Telamon Editions Limited, West Islip, N.Y., Copyright 1976
- Exhibition: March 25 – May 17, 1977, Museum of Modern Art, NYC
- Technique: In my opinion, this is a screen print on heavy paper / it could also be an offset lithography, with the flat colors showing no offset raster

Posters by Rauschenberg from the 1970s have seen a strong rise in value in recent years, as they are regarded as an affordable entry into the work of this giant of American modernism. Especially the MoMA edition is highly sought after by collectors worldwide due to the museum’s iconic status and the graphic quality of the design.
