Bindings in full leather, contemporary, slight signs to the hinges. In the frontispiece of the first volume, a copper-engraved portrait by J. G. Seller. On the title-page, a wood-engraved mark: within a rectangle, two female figures (Justice and Prudence) at the sides of a shield with the motto “Quod tibi fieri non vis, alteri ne feceris.” At the bottom the initials FDT. Headpieces, initials and endpieces wood-engraved. Ex-libris labels on the covers. The treatise is by one of the greatest figures in medicine, Thomas Sydenham (1624-1689), regarded as the father of English medicine, a great scholar of diseases such as fevers, scarlet fever, measles, etc.
