Six hand-made Majolika ceramic fruit and cheese plates, 16 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm high, blue and multicolour, produced in France in the Art Nouveau/Jugendstil period around 1900–1920, in good used condition with minor glaze imperfections on the undersides.
Description from the seller
From the dissolution of my collection, here is a beautiful lot (6 pieces) of ceramic fruit/cheese plates in a style comparable to ceramics by Villeroy & Boch. The plates are unmarked; I bought them almost 40 years ago in France at an antique shop.
This ceramic is also known as majolica or, in France, barbotine.
The plates are handmade, so it is normal for their colors to vary somewhat.
The central motif features two birds in grapevines with grape clusters. The rim shows ornaments typical of the floral Art Nouveau style. The plates were produced around 1900 in France.
You are bidding on 6 small plates (16 cm).
The white spots on the undersides are glaze flaws that occurred during production.
Overall, the plates are very well preserved; they have only minor signs of wear. Please also note the photos.
An ensemble that today is rare to find in its entirety and in good condition.
