Description from the seller

Piet Mondrian

(Pieter-Cornelis Mondriaan, alias)
(1872, Netherlands - 1944 USA)

New York City
1942

Lithographed poster on thick paper from the Georges Pompidou Centre
Musée Nationale de Paris 1984

Size 90 X 70 cm

The orthogonal structure translates the bustle of New York.
In New York, architectural gigantism, orthogonal urban planning and frenetic traffic have a strong impact on European exiled artists, like Mondrian who arrives there in 1940.
The work is characteristic of the artist's latest explorations, after his neoplastic period.
To the black grids, he now prefers colored verticals and horizontals that create a luminous optical dynamism. The density of the intertwinings of blue, yellow and red over the entire surface magnifies "the new American energy," reinforced by the discovery of the frenetic rhythm of boogie-woogie

At the top a small 1 cm tear barely visible
