Description from the seller

Provenance: Galerie Orez, The Hague (1960s); later part of the Den Harder collection, Rotterdam
Ger Lataster
Ger Lataster (Schaesberg, February 16, 1920) can be counted among the abstract expressionists. After his studies at the Academy of Industrial Arts in Maastricht, he later studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.
Lataster is capable of pushing abstract expressionism to the extreme. By using contrasting elements, techniques and materials, he continually surprises the viewer. Because Lataster applies these techniques consistently, his works come across as reliable, no matter how large the changes have been in recent years.
Famous works by Lataster include the painting 'Spelende kinderen' — made in 1954, commissioned by the municipality of Heerlen — and the monumental ceiling fresco for the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Icarus Atlanticus, 1987-1988. Lataster is one of the most successful Dutch artists of his generation.
