In The Thinker, the human figure fragments into colored planes, as if thought itself were cracking the face. The white, nerve-like, almost instinctive lines traverse the composition like shards of ideas, inner tensions in motion. Between balance and dislocation, the gaze remains calm, anchored, a silent witness to an invisible tumult.

Jim Nagoya is a French painter and visual artist whose powerful, instinctive work stands at the crossroads of Expressionism, street art, and contemporary abstraction. Trained at the prestigious Écoles des Beaux-Arts of Paris and Amiens, he early develops a visceral artistic practice, nourished by an inner necessity to represent and reinvent the world.

His work, rich in symbols and raw energies, draws on major currents such as the Cobra movement, German Expressionism, Street Art, Surrealism, New Figuration, and American Abstract Expressionism. He joined the Street Art collective TBS alongside Jone Hopper and Skepa, exploring the interaction between art and urban space.

Jim Nagoya’s universe is an alchemy of major influences: Basquiat, Bacon, Picasso, Corneille, Condo, JonOne… but also the literary and cinematic realms of the Beat Generation and the underground California of the 1960s. This inspiration takes him as far as Los Angeles, where he collaborates for several years with a renowned painter on the artistic scene.

Back in France, Jim Nagoya pursues an assertive career. He has been repeatedly honored at national salons, exhibits regularly at the Grand Palais in Paris, and his works are now part of numerous private and public collections (town halls, departmental councils, etc.).

A personal, free, vibrant, and engaged pictorial language — a mirror of the impulses of the contemporary world, imbued with a unique symbolism.
