Artist
The French artist Jo y Posso lives in Pigalle, just steps from the Moulin Rouge
For 20 years, she worked in fashion as a stylist, and she spends the rest of her time creating collages and lighting fixtures. She cuts up her art books to create encounters between great classical figures and pop art icons, thus telling sensual, funny, and feminist stories. More recently, Jo y Posso has turned to mixed media to incorporate street art influences into her work.
In her studio in Pigalle, Jo y Posso paints the woman in all her states; between strength and vulnerability, humour and sensuality.
These icons borrowed from both classical art and pop culture present a plural image of women, always liberated.
At the heart of this work, firmly pop and street, writing also plays a predominant role; excerpts from literary texts, poems, or songs fill her canvases like landscapes. And it is in these words that one must seek all the meaning
