Description from the seller

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.

Very impressive antique Ottoman Empire - Islamic silver ring. The ring has a prominently raised bezel set with a carnelian intaglio depicting a kneeling human figure in profile, possibly a warrior. The figure appears to wear a crested helmet and holds a bow before him, while the other arm is bent at the elbow and holds an arrow.

The substantial silver ring is elaborately decorated with engraved vegetal and geometric ornamentation along the shoulders and sides. The shoulders are further embellished with gilt appliqué elements forming stylised scrollwork and knot-like motifs. The outer centre of the tapering ring band is decorated with a small raised silver knob, forming a rounded boss projecting slightly from the surface of the band.

-> Figural scenes such as warriors or heroic figures are occasionally encountered on engraved gemstones within Persian and Central Asian artistic traditions, which later influenced decorative motifs used in Ottoman jewellery and metalwork.

Outside diameter: ± 26,9 mm
Inside diameter: ± 23,5 - 17,9 mm
Bezel height: ± 9,8 mm
Bezel: ± 28,4 mm

Condition: good solid condition and wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. The engraved carnelian remains clear, and the decorative silverwork and gilded elements retain their detail with a light patina.

Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
