Description from the seller
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' (*1968), Marlene Dali, circa 2010. Color screenprint, 35.9 x 24.5 cm, signed in pencil in the lower right with the artist's name and bearing the artist's monogram, lower left identified as No. 27/50.
- in excellent condition
- Icon and Irony -
The works of Pure Evil bring street art together with pop art, the seriality of street art produced by stenciling already serves as a medium of pop art.
By juxtaposing Marlene Dietrich and Salvador Dalí, the artist not only creates a 'double icon' and thus questions the status of iconicity, he also breaks the iconic by repeating the gesture of Marcel Duchamp, who gave the Mona Lisa a mustache.
about the artist
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' moved from London to California after studying design in 1990, where he produced electronic music and designed clothing for more than ten years. Inspired by the graffiti scene on the West Coast, he returned to London and worked as a street artist. His distinctive signet was a vampire hare with fangs. Later he began creating prints and canvas works, often incorporating stencils from street art.
His works have been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and other places.
