Description from the seller
Up for sale is a rare, collector-grade first edition of "Safari" by the legendary Elmer Keith. This copy is notably signed and inscribed by Keith himself, dated December 3rd, 1969, from his home in Salmon, Idaho. Unlike many copies found on the market today, this volume includes its original dust jacket in Very Good condition (not price-clipped).
Historical Importance
Elmer Keith (1899–1984) is arguably the most influential figure in 20th-century firearms development. As the "Father of the Magnums," he was instrumental in the creation of the .357, .41, and .44 Magnum cartridges.
"Safari" is a cornerstone of Keith’s literary legacy. Published privately in 1968, it documents his legendary 1957 expedition to Kenya and Tanzania. This book isn't just a hunting journal; it was the real-world "laboratory" where Keith tested his heavy-bullet theories and "OKH" (O'Neil-Keith-Hopkins) wildcat cartridges against the world’s most dangerous game. His findings in this book fundamentally changed how modern hunters and ballisticians view terminal performance and stopping power.
