Description from the seller
Silent Anchorage
In this oil on canvas by L. Costa (40×30 cm), the gaze is immediately drawn to the bow of a small boat that emerges with elegant solidity from the calm, luminous waters. The boat, painted frontally, occupies the center of the composition and becomes the visual fulcrum of the work, almost as if it were welcoming the observer into its intimate, suspended space.
The dominant tones are blue and azure, rendered in multiple shades that build a tranquil, deep sea surface. The boat’s reflection on the water is suggested with soft, vibrant brushstrokes, capable of evoking the gentle movement of the surface. The hull’s structure is defined with more decisive strokes: the white and blue of the hull, enriched by yellow accents, create a chromatic contrast that illuminates the scene and gives character to the whole.
In the foreground, on the right, a rocky formation painted with a thicker painterly substance introduces a tactile, natural dimension, balancing the boat’s linearity. In the background, a barely suggested coastline profile and a bluish mountain range emerge in the atmospheric haze, creating depth and a sense of contemplative distance.
The sky, wide and delicately veiled, disperses a soft light that envelops the entire landscape. The work conveys an atmosphere of Mediterranean quiet, suspended between reality and memory, where time seems to slow and the silence of the sea becomes protagonist.
