Nafir trompet - Working tool

Ancient nafir trumpet from Africa or the Middle East.

The nafir is a slender, shell-like, straight natural trumpet with a cylindrical bore and a conical metal bell, capable of producing one or two notes. The instrument was used as a military signaling instrument and as a ceremonial instrument in countries influenced by Islamic culture in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. In Ottoman, Persian, and Mongol miniatures, the nafir is depicted in combat scenes. In Christian culture, the instrument replaced the curved tuba or horn, or was played alongside it, as seen in artworks from around the 14th century AD.
