Description from the seller
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carlos Morago has been involved in artistic creation since childhood, as his father was a copyist at the Prado Museum, meaning visits to the art gallery were a regular occurrence. By studying the great masters, he learnt to develop various techniques, excelling particularly in drawing. He later trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid.
Through his meticulous and flawlessly executed painting, Morago works in the landscape genre, as well as recreating interiors and, in particular, still lifes. True to a realistic style, he also creates intimate compositions.
Morago’s works demonstrate a clear mastery of drawing technique, with a preference for depicting the everyday life around him and the details of ordinary objects, which allow him to create compositional exercises in which geometry plays a fundamental role, as well as studies of light.
Throughout his career, he has received various awards and honours:
Two Medals of Honour from the BMW Prize
First Prize from the Foundation for the Arts and Artists
First Prize in the Penagos Drawing Competition
Third Medal from the Autumn Salon
First Prize in the Villa de Cedeira Competition
Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary in Seville.
He held his first exhibition in 1976 in his hometown, and has since held exhibitions in various Spanish and European cities throughout his career.
