Born in 1931, Michel Saillour established himself as a painter and engraver whose work, at once sensitive and rigorous, is fully within the great French post-war tradition. Trained in an artistic milieu of reconstruction, he develops very early a personal language where light, matter and structure become the foundations of his plastic research.
A painter attentive to atmospheres, Saillour explores landscapes, still lifes and intimate scenes with a subtle and nuanced palette. His compositions, of remarkable sobriety, emit a silent, almost meditative presence. Each painting testifies to a rare mastery of space and a keen sense of balance.
Alongside his painting, Michel Saillour also distinguishes himself as an engraver, a field in which he excels through the finesse of his line and the precision of his compositions. His prints, often imbued with the same poetry as his paintings, reveal a strong graphic sensibility and a high technical standard. This double practice reinforces the coherence of his work and bears witness to a constant curiosity for the possibilities offered by different media.
Recognized in national galleries and salons, Saillour delights a loyal audience, sensitive to the delicacy of his gaze and the quality of his pictorial writing. Today, his works — paintings as well as engravings — are sought after for their timeless elegance and their ability to establish a serene dialogue with space.
