Description from the seller
Two flags of Congo
1. Old authentic flag from the Zaire period (Democratic Republic of the Congo), used between 1971 and 1997. This flag was manufactured in the 1970s. Material is cotton.
This flag was handmade / using old-industrial technique and consists of sewn fabric panels (no print). The star and the diagonal band are appliqué stitched.
During the Cold War, Zaire was an important ally of Western countries in Central Africa. The country played a strategic role in regional politics and conflicts, and the flag stood internationally as a symbol of a strong, centralized state under Mobutu’s rule.
In 1997, after Mobutu’s fall, the country regained its old name: the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The flag largely kept the same design, but the blue color was officially lighter (sky blue), marking the end of the Zaire period represented by this flag.
Dimensions: 150 x 115 cm, in nice used condition
2. The national flag of Congo-Brazzaville. This striking flag consists of three diagonal color fields: green, yellow, and red, the well-known Pan-African colors.
The flag was introduced in 1959, just before independence from France in 1960. The flag was produced in the 1970s.
In nice used condition
Dimensions: 140 x 115 cm
