Description from the seller
The work represents one of the artist’s few remaining pieces in a more photographic style and the theme she often describes—a female world where symbols intertwine with a gestural language that reveals and deepens the theme of bonds, such as embroidery or stitching on the skin, and introspection.
The theme often depicts a feminine world immersed in an almost ritual atmosphere, where symbols intertwine with a gestural language that reveals and deepens the theme of female bonds. The stitching evokes the work of ancient women, but the symbols are reversed as if imprints on the skin, scratched and pressed into the very moment, to make them powerful and impactful to the viewer.
What remains principal are always the gazes and the naturalness of a body, not perfect according to conventional aesthetic canons, not exposed to pleasure, but bearing witness, itself, to the entire message, which communicates confidence and dignity, going beyond mere observation.
The work has a 2.5 cm-high frame.
With the artwork, the certificate of authenticity of the original piece will also be shipped.
Jara Marzulli’s works are part of private collections in many parts of the world, public and museum collections such as in Athens, in Catania at MacS, in Gaeta’s Pinacoteca, at the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera, and in Cadiz, Spain. She also collaborates with "The Guide artists", a physical and online store featuring the best figurative art from around the world.
Numerous publications appear in important catalogs, books, and magazines, both in print and online, with international reach. The latest book, "La statura della palma" published by Selvatiche Edizioni, with 15 images of her works, in collaboration with poet Francesca del Moro, is available on various stores, platforms, or by orders@selvaticheedizioni.com
Jara Marzulli
was born in Bari and graduated from the Bari Art High School and later from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari with top marks, while since 1998 she has participated in exhibitions and competitions, quickly earning recognitions, prizes, and important selections.
Her figurative realist painting style immediately became recognizable and, from 2004, international experiences between fairs, biennials, and major exhibitions began.
Her art grows and speaks of a feeling that is at once ecstatic and carnal, made even more incisive and moving by the technical perfection that distinguishes the artist. A lucid and wrenching expressive quality, an indescribable purity that dresses itself in painting, a constant play of disorientations, of role exchanges between the artist who paints and the depicted subject.
Numerous are the prestigious Biennials and art exhibitions where she has shown in Italy and abroad, such as in Turkey, the Art Taipei Fair, Taiwan, China at Red Elation gallery, Hong Kong, the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Dublin, the Mainz Museum, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and London.
Jara Marzulli’s figures have intense, direct, frontal gazes. They carry the dignity of subjects ready to respond with great immediacy. The characters that almost completely fill the canvas space manage to visually represent men, women, girls, and boys who seem to recognize the observer as a stranger, sustain his gaze, push him away, and distance themselves to defend the silence of their precious inner world.
