Description from the seller
Set of 32 chess pieces clearly inspired by a historical-Napoleonic setting:
The King depicts Napoleon with a tricorne or bicorne hat, cloak, and military uniform.
The Queen is represented as Pauline Borghese in an empire-style long dress, with sculpted details on the dress.
The Bishops and the other major pieces are human figures in period clothing.
The Knights are molded as small prancing horses, realistic and three-dimensional.
The Rooks have the shape of castellated towers with battlements.
The Pawns are soldiers in uniform, probably grenadiers or infantry, with tall headgear.
The pieces are entirely sculpted in relief, not stylized but figurative.
The base of each piece is circular and solid, with a smooth bottom.
Details (folds of the garments, buttons, facial expressions) are quite pronounced, suggesting a cast-in style.
The slightly irregular appearance and patina indicate possible artisanal production.
General features
Complete set with two identical formations in shape.
Height and weight.
1- King: height 11.2 cm, weight 318 g
2- Queen: height 11 cm, weight 307 g
3- Bishops: height 10.5 cm, weight 234 g
4- Knights: height 9 cm, weight 307 g
5- Rooks: height 8 cm, weight 333 g
6- Pawns: height 7.8 cm, weight 132 g
Weight is probably substantial, given the metallic nature.
This is a decorative and collectible set, more for display than for tournament use, ideal for a classic setting or an elegant study. The style evokes European military settings from the 18th to the 19th century, perhaps with reference to the Napoleonic wars.
Total weight of the set: approximately 6.858 kg
