Description from the seller

GENERAL

This 1978 Volvo 244 features custom coachwork by PILATO in Italy. Originally manufactured as a funeral vehicle, it was never used for funeral services and remains in very good condition. With an exceptionally low mileage of 27,661 km and a B19A Red Block engine, it holds a valid Periodic Technical Inspection and is completely ready to be driven any distance.

BODYWORK & PAINTWORK

All internal cavities of the body have been filled with Motip anti-corrosion wax, and superficial rust spots were treated using Brunox epoxy. The car is structurally solid, with only minor superficial rust remaining around the side windows and on the tailgate.

TECHNICAL

The mechanical systems received comprehensive updates in 2022. The braking system was completely renewed using Ate Classic parts, including the central pump, circuit distributor, connections, calipers, ventilated discs, and pads. The engine is fitted with a new 123ignition electronic ignition, new radiator, new hoses, new charging relay, and a brand-new exhaust imported from Sweden. The Zenith carburetor was ultrasonically cleaned and fully rebuilt with a complete kit from England. A new LuK clutch kit, guide bearing, and bearing seal were installed, solving previous warm-shifting issues and ensuring flawless gear shifts. The suspension features new shock absorbers, pivots, rod ends, and Swedish -3 cm sport springs, though the original higher springs are included. The wheels were sandblasted, electrostatically painted, and fitted with new Continental all-season tires.

INTERIOR

The interior retains its unique coachbuilt configuration and classic original layout, offering a well-preserved driving environment suitable for its remarkably low mileage.

DOCUMENTS

The vehicle is sold with a valid Periodic Technical Inspection certificate alongside its official registration documents.

PICK-UP

The car is ready for local collection upon sale, and full assistance in facilitating transport anywhere in Europe can be provided for the buyer if needed.

OTHER INFORMATION

This vehicle represents a rare opportunity to acquire an Italian-bodied coachbuilt Volvo with exceptionally low mileage, featuring extensive technical reconditioning completed in 2022.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
