Subject: Joan of Arc, nicknamed “the Maid,” born around 1412 in Domrémy, a village of the Duchy of Bar (now in the Vosges department in Lorraine), and who died on the stake on May 30, 1431 in Rouen, capital of the Duchy of Normandy then under English possession, is a heroine of French history, a military leader and a saint of the Catholic Church, posthumously nicknamed “the Maid of Orléans.”

Works inspired by the Maid of Orléans, Jeanne d’Arc, are countless across all fields of arts and culture [257]: architecture, comics, songs, cinema [258], radio and television, video games, literature (poetry, novels, drama [259]), music [260] (notably operas and oratorios), painting, sculpture, tapestry, stained glass, etc.
