Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The working method of Marc Gonz consists in burying layer upon layer; in this process of burying, a face is configured, part of disorder and error to find harmony. Marc Gonz's works through matter and color present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke show us a visceral, vibrant, at times grotesque and primitive work, but which at the same time expresses deep emotions, that refer us to the ancestral, the spiritual, going to the essence without artifice, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning is transcended. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and leads us along the path to the deepest parts of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving a thick impasto technique in which the density of the painting is recreated by molding large pictorial masses that overflow. The volume of the brushstrokes turns the works into almost sculptural pieces, creating microcosms that adopt their own identity when we approach.
