Bram van Velde started working at age twelve for a home furnishing company to provide for his family's needs. He was a natural talent, early copied the old masters and decorated furniture and lampshades for his firm. His employer noticed his great talent and encouraged him to develop further. Bram van Velde studied at the painting and decoration studio Van Schaijk. Lives and works in France
Bram van Velde moved to Germany and settled in the artist colony of Worpswede. Here he produced, besides a number of paintings in an expressionist style, his first lithograph – a self-portrait. It appeared in a publication by the artists' colony in a run of 500 copies. In 1924 he and his brother Gerard left for Paris. Paris was Bram van Velde's real schooling.
