Description:
This lithograph was produced in 1954. It features a depiction of a figure with deformed forms, where the face and clothing consist of geometric shapes and bold brushwork. The composition is based on deep black and subdued tones, complemented by the effective placement of vivid colors.
Artist Profile:
Antoni Clave was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1913. He began his career as an apprentice painter at age 13 while attending night art school. He started creating magazine illustrations and advertising posters before dedicating himself to painting at age 18. In 1936, he served as a soldier for the Popular Front during the Spanish Civil War. Following the defeat in 1939, he fled to Montparnasse, France. In 1944, he met Picasso, who had a decisive influence on his work. He gained international recognition starting in the 1950s, receiving awards at the Venice Biennale in 1954 and the Sao Paulo Biennale the following year. In 1984, he was selected as the Spanish representative for the Venice Biennale. He was active in various fields, including painting, objects, sculpture, and printmaking. He passed away in 2005.
