Italian school (XX) - Capri

Capri View, oil on canvas, by the Italian artist Silveri. It is a replica of Capri Vista II by the American painter Peter Bell, highly valued and recognized for his reproductions of Italian and European seascapes: a vibrant and idyllic union.

The replica is perfectly crafted, enhanced by a frame in precious wood, handmade and finished with plaster and gilded (the frame’s value alone is estimated at around €200).

The classical frame contrasts with the modern stroke, identifiable as ethereal impressionism or rustic style, where the vibrant, textured brushwork of the depicted objects is paired with the straighter, smoother brushwork of the sea, a typically dynamic element deliberately left calm compared to the rest to give it a salvific and central function in the painting, as in Bell’s style.

Purchased by the painter Silveri in Agrigento in the 1990s, directly from his atelier.
With the frame the dimensions are 110x140x5 cm.
